There is no lack of contrast on this tour. Start on the high plateau of Windhoek, down to the deserts of the Namib and Kalahari, the unique sea of dunes of the Sossusvlei, deserted Atlantic coast, breathtaking fish river canyon, the Orange River lifeline with grapes in abundance, sea of flowers of the Namaqualand, alpine-like cederbergs up to to the fruit and wine-growing areas of the Cape Region. Finally, of course, Cape Town with its famous Table Mountain – one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Cape Town has a lot to offer, so it would be highly recommended to spend a few extra days after the tour. This tour is suitable for everyone, we mostly drive on well pushed gravel roads, sometimes asphalt. Bookable as a hotel and combination of hotel / camping tour.
Day 1 – Windhoek-Sesriem (320km). Arrival in Windhoek and transfer from the airport to Windhoek. Takeover of the motorcycles and briefing. Start towards the southwest to the Namib Desert. At the Spreetshoogte Pass we have a great view down to the Namib Desert. At this edge, South America and Africa separated 100 million years ago. Refuel at the Solitaire desert gas station. Our final destination is Sesriem, the entrance gate to Sossusvlei. Lodge / camping. Dinner at the lodge is at own cost.
Day 2 – Sesriem-Sossusvlei-Aus (340km) We have to get up early this morning to see the sunrise in the dune area. Sossusvlei is a clay depression surrounded by red sand dunes, which at 300m are among the highest in the world. During a short dune hike you can ” breathe ” the vastness and silence of the orange-colored sea of dunes. Unfortunately, no motorcycles are allowed in the National Park and we switch to the comfortable escort truck. On the way back we visit the narrow gorge of the Sesriem Canyon. We then continue along the huge Namib Naukluft National Park. On the left, the edge and right the red oxidized dunes of the Namib. Endless areas crossed by oryx antelopes. Today’s destination is the small town of Aus. Guesthouse / Camping. Breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 3 – Aus-Lüderitz (125km) After two long stages, today is a short 125km asphalt stage. The landscape down to the Atlantic Ocean to Lüderitz is unique. Width without end. Visit to Kolmannskuppe. Of the richest city in Africa during the Diamond Age, only a ghost town is left today, where the sand dunes are becoming more and more popular. After the two long stages, the afternoon is free to explore the German-influenced town of Lüderitz. Pension breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 4 – Lüderitz-Fish River Canyon (380km) We drive back inland, refuel in Aus and on to Seeheim for a lunch break. Then we turn towards the Fish river Canyon past the Naute Dam reservoir and the huge date plantations.
Lodge / camping
breakfast / dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 5 – Fish River Canyon-Orange River (205km) In the cool of the morning we visit the gigantic canyon, the second largest canyon in the world. Here you have to linger a little to enjoy the space and its silence. Then a curvy slope down to Ai Ais. A bath in warm spring water strengthens the limbs again. After lunch through the very scenic strait to the Orange border river. After the desert landscape, the huge green table-grape growing area on the Orange River suddenly awaits us. We cross the border in the late afternoon and spend the night directly on the Orange River. Chalet or luxury tent / camping, breakfast / dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 6 – Orange-Hondeklip Baai (330km) The asphalt runway to Springbok brings us forward quickly. We then make a turn through part of the Namaqua National Park. Alternatively, we can also take the route via Port Nolloth along the coast to Hondeklip Baai to breathe fresh sea air. Those who like a lot of peace and quiet and the sea will fall in love with this small, peaceful place. Bungalow / breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 7 – Hondeklip Baai-Cederberge (310km) We drive through a winding mountain landscape back to the N7 to Clanwilliam for a lunch stop. Very impressive drive through the rugged mountain landscape of the Cederberg. Some people compare this area with the Dolomites in Europe. Our overnight stay is in an idyllic valley.
Guest house / camping, breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant
Day 8 – Cederberg-Cape Town (210km) Gravel slopes Descent from the grandiose Cederbergs, over several sections with impressive names such as “Grootrivier-Blinkberg and Gydopass”. Then shortly before Cape Town we head onto asphalt roads through the orchards of Ceres – through the narrow gorge of the Baains Kloof Pass to Wellington in the wine-growing region to the famous Bloubergstrand with its backdrop of Table Mountain. Cape Town – we have reached one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. Overnight in the city.
Bungalow / breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant.
Day 9 – Cape Town (180km) A trip to Cape Town only comes to an end when you have visited the infamous Cape of Storms – Cape of Good Hope. Since the traffic is hectic and dangerous, it is advisable to do the day tour in the support vehicle. We visit the penguin beach “Boulders Beach”, the Cape and drive over the impressive Chapmans Peak on the steep coast road back to Cape Town.
