Kaokoland Adventure

This is an adventure tour into the true wilderness. Breahtaking nature with desert elephants and traditional Himba tribes. A mountainous area with the famous van Zyls Pass, wide valleys and dry river beds, where wild game roams about. The Epupa Waterfalls created by the Cunene River on the border of Angola and Namibia are little paradise.

Day 1

Meeting at the airport. Transfer to Windhoek and opportunity for shopping. Relaxation by the pool or a visit to the city center after a long flight. Dinner at own cost in the famous Joe’s Beerhouse. Overnight at Tamboti Guesthouse.

Day 2

Transfer to Kamanjab, in a comfortable bus because we want to save ourselves the long and boring journey to Kaokoland. Breaks in Otjiwarongo and Outjo. In the afternoon we change over to the motorcycles.

Accommodation: Guesthouse dinner at own cost in the restaurant.

Day 3

Today will be exciting and demanding. Through a small dry river we go into the impressive Khowarib Gorge. It’s important to keep a distance from one another as it can get very dusty. Namibia’s incredible wildlife already reveals itself at this stage. We may meet giraffes, springboks and maybe even elephants.

Accommodation: Camping, breakfast and dinner.

Day 4

Today we drive through some Ovahimba or Herero settlements. You are, of course, welcome to have a short chat. The city of Opuwo is our destination. Our campsite offers a great view over the bush landscape.

Accommodation: Camping (Accommodation in a lodge is also possible.) Breakfast. Dinner at own cost at the lodge.

Day 5

Today we drive to the Kunene border river between Namibia and Angola. Here we spend the night at the impressive Epupa waterfalls. We use the afternoon for swimming, relaxing or mingling with the locals.

Accommodation: Camping (Accommodation in a lodge is also possible.) Breakfast and dinneri

Day 6

A short distance back towards Opuwo until we turn to the notorious van Zyl’s pass. On this day we will encounter stony passages through the mopane tree landscape. The view from the pass into the desert landscape is unforgettable and simply breathtaking.

Accommodation: Camping. Breakfast and dinner.

Day 7

Through the plain of the dry Marienfluss we get to the Kunene border river again. The Marienfluss offers an impressive solid sandy stage in contrast to yesterday’s stony mountain stage. Unfortunately, bathing in this river is not popular due to crocodiles. In the afternoon we leave the Kunene River and spend the night somewhere in the wild Kaokoland.

Accommodation: Camping. Breakfast and dinner.

Day 8

Another day full of surprises. The landscape seems to change every 20 km. After the small town of Orupembe, a demanding stage through two dry rivers to Purros. If we are lucky we may spot Namibia’s desert elephants.

Accommodation: Camping. Breakfast and dinner.

Day 9

A varied stage with water crossings through the river bed. Then a Mars-like plain to the Hoanib River. Here we have to be on the look out for elephants. We refuel in Sesfontein where we can see the restored fort from the colonial era. Continue to Warmquelle where a natural pool is waiting for us to refresh.

Accommodation: Camping. Breakfast and dinner.

Day 10

We are leaving this wonderful place. After a short gravel road we drive through a plain rich in animals on jeep tracks and follow a river to the gravel road that brings us back to Kamanjab.

Accommodation: Guesthouse. Breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant.

Day 11

We load the motorbikes and transfer you to Windhoek.

Optional: You can also plan a two-day detour to the famous Etosha National Park.

Accommodation: Guesthouse. Breakfast. Dinner at own cost in the restaurant
